District Profile Last Updated: Oct. 5, 2018, 11:47 a.m.

Pennsylvania’s new 6th congressional district has some overlap with the old pre-2018-redistricting 6th district. It takes up the western suburbs of Philadelphia and the majority of the city of Reading, the 5th-largest city in the state. The redistricting has shifted the district from an area which voted for Clinton by 1 point to one which voted for Clinton by 9 points. The previous incumbent, Republican Ryan Costello, did not file for re-election. The Democratic candidate Chrissy Houlahan is a former chemistry teacher, businesswoman, and nonprofit leader who has been endorsed by President Obama among others. The Republican candidate is Greg McCauley, an attorney and career businessman native to the area. Neither candidate has previous political experience.
