Located in the northern Midwest, the state of South Dakota is home to landmarks like Mount Rushmore and the Badlands. South Dakota is 86% white. Their current Republican incumbent, Kristi Noem, is running for governor which leaves candidates Dusty Johnson (R) and Timothy Bjorkman (D) to vie for the open seat. Johnson plans to advocate for agriculture in the state and to support the armed forces. Bjorkman, a former state judge, hopes to minimize tax loopholes and providing affordable health care for all. Obama received 40.8% of the vote in 2012 and Hillary received 34.01% of the vote in 2016.
