Tennessee’s third congressional district is located in the mid-eastern section of the state. According to the census, the district is 62.76% urban and 37.24% rural. It is a primarily White district. This district has strongly voted Republican in the past three elections. In the 2012 presidential election, the Republicans of this district won approximately 65% of the two-party vote. In the 2014 house election, the Republicans won 65% of the two-party vote. In the 2016 presidential election, the Republicans won 70% of the two-party vote. In the house election, they won 70% of the two-party vote. Currently, Republican incumbent, Chuck Fleischmann, and Democratic representative, Danielle Mitchell, are running for this seat. Fleischmann has served as this district’s representative since 2011. Mitchell has been the chief executive officer of The Chattanooga Sports Institute and Center for Health since 2013.
