Texas’ 10th congressional district is an approximately triangular region spanning from Austin to just west of Houston. It is 78% urban, 57% white, and 26% hispanic. The Republican incumbent, Michael McCaul, has been in office since 2005, is chair of the house homeland security committee, and is the third-wealthiest member of congress. He won re-election with 57% of the vote in 2016 and 62% in 2014. The Democratic challenger, Mike Siegel, has been a teacher and a civil rights lawyer but has never held elected office.
