Texas’ 2nd congressional district is a ring-like region of northern and western Houston. It is 98.11% urban, 49.37% white, and 31.28% hispanic. The current representative, Republican Ted Poe, chose not to seek re-election. He had won reelection with 60% or more of the vote share in every election since 2006. The Republican candidate, Daniel Crenshaw, is a retired Navy SEAL who served in Iraq, Afghanistan, and South Korea. The Democratic candidate, Todd Litton, has worked in law, investments, and a number of political positions. The district has consistently voted for Republican presidential nominees since 2000.
