Texas’ 27th congressional district consists of a portion of Texas’ eastern coastline. It is 74.99% urban, 40.52% white, and 51.65% hispanic. The Republican incumbent, Michael Cloud, has been in office since 2018, due to a special election replacing the former Republican Representative, Blake Farenthold, who won reelections by a 10% or greater vote share lead in every election since 2012. The Democratic challenger, Eric Holguin, worked for the New York City Comptroller and graduated from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. The district has consistently voted for Republican presidential nominees since 2000 with the exception of voting for Obama (2008).
