Texas’ 29th congressional district is a hook-like region of eastern Houston. It is 99.94% urban, 9.46% white, and 77.09% hispanic. The Democratic incumbent, Gene Green, has been in office since 1993, and has chosen to retire. He has won reelection by a 30% or greater vote share lead in every election since 1994. The Democratic candidate, Sylvia Garcia, has served on the Texas State Senate since 2013. The Republican candidate, Phillip Aronoff, has served in the Texas Air National Guard. The district has voted moderately in the last five presidential elections, voting for Clinton (2016), Romney (2012), Obama (2008), Kerry (2004), and Bush (2000).
