Texas’ 3rd congressional district is a suburban rectangle in the North Eastern corner of Texas. It is 96.88% urban, 59.97% white, and 14.63% hispanic. The previous incumbent, Sam Johnson, has chosen not to seek reelection. He had consistently won re-election with around 60% of votes. The Republican candidate, Van Taylor, was a member of Texas’ state senate representing district 8. The Democratic challenger, Lorie Burch, served as the co-chair of the Dallas Fort-Worth Human Rights Campaign.
