Texas’ 35th congressional district is diagonal sliver, often cited as one of the top ten most gerrymandered districts in the USA. It is 95.99% urban, 26.25% white, and 61.18% hispanic. The Democratic incumbent, Lloyd Doggett, has been in office since 2013, and held office as a legislator in the Texas State Senate and as a justice of the Texas Supreme Court. The Republican challenger, David Smalling, and was an electrician before politics. In the 2012 Presidential election, Obama won 64.55% of the district's two party vote. 2014 the House race Democratic candidate won 65.24% of the vote. In the 2016 Presidential election Clinton won 67.76% of the two party vote. 2016's House race the Democratic candidate won 66.63% of the two party vote.
