Texas’ 36th congressional district is a large mass of land on Central Eastern Texas. It is 67.74% urban, 61.35% white, and 26.55% hispanic. The Republican incumbent, Brian Babin, has been in office since only 2015, served as an air force captain. The Democratic challenger, Dayna Steele, was a NASA contractor and a host on a radio show. In the 2012 Presidential election, Obama won 25.99% of the district's two party vote. 2014 the House race Democratic candidate won 22.53% of the vote. In the 2016 Presidential election Clinton won 25.93% of the two party vote. 2016's House race the Republican candidate ran unopposed.
