Texas’ 6th congressional district encompasses two counties southwest of Dallas and an approximately triangular region in the corner of a third county. It is 89% urban, 52% white, 22% hispanic, and 20% black. The current representative, Joe Barton, has served since 1985. After a sexting scandal in 2017, he announced that he will not seek re-election this year. He had consistently won re-election with more than 55% of the vote. The Republican candidate, Ron Wright, has worked in politics since 2000. The Democratic candidate, Jana Lynne Sanchez, is a journalist who has previously worked as a campaign manager.
