Virginia's 1st Congressional District, referred to as ‘America’s First District’, includes the Jamestown Settlement as well as a few military installations. This district has historically leaned Republican: 51% of votes were for McCain in the 2012 election and 53% were for both Romney and Trump in the 2012 and 2016 elections respectively. Democrat Vangie Williams, who won this year’s primary with roughly 40% of the democratic votes, is running against long time incumbent Republican Rob Wittman, who has been serving since 2007.
