Virginia’s ninth district covers most of the southwestern part of the state. Republicans have controlled the district since 2010. Incumbent Morgan Griffith, who won 69% of the vote in 2016, believes in prohibiting same sex marriage, reduce restrictions on gun ownership, and prohibit abortions after the first trimester unless the mother’s life is in danger. Democratic challenger Anthony Flaccavento believes in increasing access to health care and increasing restrictions on gun ownership while protecting the Second Amendment.
