Wisconsin’s seventh district contains most of the northern border of Wisconsin. The District is 42% Urban and 58% Rural and the population is composed of 95.6% White, 1.5% Asian, and 1.5% Native American. The District voted for the Democratic presidential nominee in the 2000, 2004, and 2008 elections and for the Republican in 2012 and 2016. In this District, Obama won with 53.2% of the vote in 2008 but lost to Romney in 2012 narrowly, as Romney took 50.9% of the vote. Most recently, Donald Trump won the District with 57.7% of the vote. The Republican incumbent, Sean Duffy, has served the District since 2011, and defended his seat in 2016 with 61.7% of the vote. He is currently on the Committee of Financial Services. Margaret Engebretson, a veteran, is running a common Democratic campaign with a special focus on, in her words, “defending Democracy.” She has earned, like most of the Democratic nominees from Wisconsin, an endorsement from the AFL-CIO.
