District Profile Last Updated: Oct. 5, 2018, 11:47 a.m.
Wisconsin’s eighth district is the most northeastern district of Wisconsin, containing Green Bay. The District’s population is composed of 93.2% White, 2.7% Native American, 2.2% Hispanic, and 1.4% Asian. The District is 56% Urban and 44% Rural. The District is considered a moderate Republican district; it has voted for for the Republican presidential nominee since the turn of the century with the exception of 2008, in which Obama won with 53.7% of the vote. Most recently, Trump won the District in 2016 with 56.2% of the vote. Since 1998, the District has voted three Republicans to represent them and one Democrat. The Republican incumbent, Mike Gallagher, is running again this year after first being elected in 2016 with 62.7% of the vote. Gallagher was a Marine, and is serving in the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and in the Homeland Security Committee. He voted Yea for border wall funding. Against him is Beau Liegeois from the Democratic Party. Liegeois’s minimal campaign webpage seems to suggest that he agrees with a majority of Gallagher’s stances, save his healthcare views.
